Heysham Flat hand gathered seed mussel fishery
Recent inspections of the Heysham Flat mussel bed indicate conditions are potentially suitable for a hand-gathered seed mussel fishery, subject to HRA approval and agreement from Technical Science and Byelaws Subcommittee.
NWIFCA is inviting expressions of interest from the hand-gathered seed sector to determine whether there is sufficient interest to pursue opening the fishery.
Proposed area: Heysham flat
The image indicates the area where dense seed has been identified, and within which an area for fishing could be proposed. Please note, there is presence of Sabellaria close by, which may necessitate limitations on access routes.
