Pilling Cockle Fishery Update

At an Extraordinary Meeting of our Technical, Science and Byelaw Sub-Committee (TSB) today, the Authority has undertaken to open the Pilling Cockle Fishery subject to a statutory Habitat Regulations Assessment (HRA) being approved by Natural England. The resolution passed at the TSB was that the bed would be opened to the west of a straight line drawn from the slipway on Fluke Hall Lane, Pilling to the Plover Scar Lighthouse, with the area to the east of this line being closed.

Please note, this does not mean the fishery is open with immediate effect, as amendments need to be made to the original HRA for resubmission to Natural England. If and when Natural England’s approval is granted, we will communicate with our Byelaw 3 permit holders as soon as is practicable regarding which tides will be open to fishing, as well as the exact coordinates of each end of the open-closed boundary line. These provisions will then be enforced through our Byelaw 3 flexible permit conditions.
