Results of the Pilling open tide consultation

Majority favoured retaining the Mon-Fri open tides, therefore, Pilling cockle fishery will remain open Mon-Fri.

Consultation to determine Pilling open days.

A consultation is open from today until the 7th October for industry to indicate whether they prefer Pilling to change to one tide per day Wednesday to Sunday, or remain at one tide per day Monday to Friday for the remainder of the season (until February 2026). Following the online consultation for Pilling Cockle Fishery, there was an overwhelming majority in favour of a Monday to Friday opening, one tide per day.

Flexible Permit Conditions will be made available in due to course to all Byelaw 3 permit holders

Following the TSB meeting on the 29th May 2025, the Authority took the decision to open Pilling cockle bed as of 1st July 2025 until 28th Feb 2026, for one tide a day, five days a week.

Please note the following:

• The days on the which the fishery will be opened have not been determined. Further consultation and communication will be sent out to stakeholders in due course.
• All other beds in Morecambe Bay will be resurveyed this summer with further recommendations being brought to the Authority in August regarding their opening.
• There is no Total Allowable Catch (TAC) applied to this fishery currently.
